The new SIA door supervisor and security guard licensing scheme began in Hampshire at the start of March 2004 and has been incorporating other regions of England and Wales since then. It is already mandatory in such areas to have a licence to work as a door supervisor or security guard. By 11 April 2005, all areas of England and Wales will be covered by the legislation.

If you work in either of these professions it is your responsibility to make sure that you have an SIA licence. It is also your responsibility to arrange licences for those who work for you within these industries.

Unlicensed door supervisors and/or security guards are liable for a fine of up to £5000, six months in prison or both. It is clear that the SIA, the police and Local Authorities intend to rigorously enforce this legislation.

In order to obtain a licence, door supervisors and security guards will be required to complete a course facilitated by a recognised training provider. The Training Agency is delighted to announce a new partnership with Siatraining Wales, which enables us to become the leading organisation for Door Supervisory and Security Guard training in the Cardiff & South Wales area.

The courses are open to both corporate and individual clients wishing to enter the door supervisor or security guard professions.

During the past 20 years the number of door supervisors has grown dramatically with the boom in the night-time economy. Estimates indicate there are currently 95,000 door supervisors employed in pubs, clubs and bars in England and Wales.

The 30 hours of training for each course takes place at our purpose-built training centre in Cardiff, and the cost includes the course handbook, registration with Edexcel (the examining body) and the examination fees. Upon completion of the course, you will receive guidance on how to obtain your national licence for the relevant profession.

Courses run every month. A limited number of places are still available.
